Board test software supports Intel I/O processor

A Kozio product story

Kozio's turnkey board test software is now available to designers releasing new board designs based on the Intel IOP321 I/O processor with Intel XScale microarchitecture.

This broadens Kozio's existing support for Intel processors, and demonstrates the company's commitment to continual support of Intel I/O processors.

Kozio is also a general member of the Intel Communications Alliance.

Kozio's products for manufacturing test, board bring-up, power-on self-test and in-field diagnostics now support the Intel IOP321 I/O processor, and can be delivered, fully configured, in just two weeks for a custom platform using the device.

"Kozio is committed to supporting the full line of Intel I/O processors, extending our Intel processor expertise and passing on that knowledge in proven software tools that are delivered very quickly to our customers", said Kozio President Joseph Skazinski.

"Our products enhance confidence in releasing new boards using Intel I/O processors, and we guarantee customer satisfaction with a 60-day 100%-money-back guarantee".

For development of products based on the Intel IOP321 I/O processor, Kozio provides a completely integrated diagnostics solution, including drivers and turnkey test suites for the PCI-X, SDRAM, DMA controller (both channels) and timers.

Kozio also provides evaluation software that is ready-to-run on customer-owned evaluation kits, specifically the IQ31244 and IQ80219 development kits.

For both development kits, Kozio supports the Intel Serial ATA controller with the Kozio I/O Engine feature, which provides I/O subsystem measurement, validation and characterisation, taking advantage of the DMA controller and SATA controller moving data to external drives and validating the data after reading it from the drives.

A free application note titled "I/O subsystem measurement and characterisation using Kozio kDiagnostics" can be downloaded from the company's website.

"Turnkey board test software from companies such as Kozio is an important option for our customers building next-generation storage systems", said Dave Boehmer, Director of Applications and Platform Engineering, Intel Storage Group.

"Such fully configured solutions help accelerate time to market by providing ready-to-deploy solutions for Intel I/O processors".

Kozio will support all Intel I/O processors, and supports storage-related peripherals such as IDE, ATA, Serial ATA (SATA), SCSI and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and continually adds new support for other technologies.

Kozio's standard products support all memories, buses, core peripherals and most other peripherals, performing hardware test, functional test, manufacturing test, board bring-up diagnostics and fault isolation.

A new online quoting process, based onboard layout, will address any hardware chips not supported by the standard products.

The single-chip Intel IOP321 I/O processor is Intel's fifth generation I/O processor.

It is the first I/O processor to integrate an Intel XScale microarchitecture core and a PCI-X interface.

Many storage, networking, and embedded applications require fast I/O throughput for optimal performance.

The IOP321 is a highly integrated, cost-effective I/O system on a chip that delivers a two-fold performance boost over its predecessor, the Intel IOP310 I/O processor chipset, in I/O-intensive applications.

The Intel IOP321 I/O processor is especially well suited to networked storage applications, including RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) adapter cards, ROMB (RAID on motherboard), and other storage applications.

Its small package size, high data throughput, and integrated AAU/XOR provide an optimised solution for these applications.

In addition, the Intel IOP321 I/O processor is an ideal choice for applications requiring a high performance I/O subsystem in a tightly integrated environment.
