VxWin 2.2 is the latest release of the Windows XP extension to VxWorks from Kuka Controls.

VxWin 2.2 is the latest release of the Windows XP extension to VxWorks from Kuka Controls This progressive software extends Wind River VxWorks with Windows XP Embedded and allows both to reside concurrently on a single CPU

Using Windows XP Embedded as an extension to VxWorks eliminates the shortcomings and capitalises on the advantages of each operating system.

VxWin extends the industry proven real-time capabilities of VxWorks adding the powerful features of Windows XP Embedded.

System designers can deliver a very precise control system with an excellent human machine interface and virtually unlimited options data acquisition and analysis.

Hardware component count is significantly reduced resulting in a significant increase in MTBF.

Because standard TCP/IP communications via shared memory are used for connecting to the Windows operating system, porting an existing VxWorks application is easily accomplished.

Users also have the option to use the same VxWorks applications in an embedded system.

The 2.2 Version of VxWin incorporates several new improvements and supports the latest version of VxWorks, 5.5.1.

For instance, system reliability has been enhanced.

The new version of VxWin continues to operate if a faulty driver causes a Windows XP Embedded system exception to occur.

VxWorks is notified by an event but real-time capabilities as well as latencies remain unchanged.

The simultaneous use of the two operating systems on a single CPU does not lead to any degradation in the real-time performance of VxWorks.

The performance of today's processors is sufficient enough to carry a second operating system without reducing functionality.

VxWin technology has been utilized in over 60,000 critical real-time applications in the automation, test and measurement, medical and robotics fields.

"The operational and cost-saving benefits of VxWin are substantial", notes Gerd Lammers, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kuka Controls.

"Many applications also benefit from the reduction in size and weight of the hardware systems, as well as the higher reliability".
