An evaluation copy of the latest release of the CeWin real-time extension platform is available to qualified embedded systems developers from the Kuka Controls website This progressive software allows Microsoft Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded to reside concurrently on a single CPU

Using Windows CE as the real-time backend of Windows XP Embedded eliminates the shortcomings and capitalises on the advantages of each operating system.

The resulting simple processor system delivers hard real-time performance with all the advantages of Windows XP including NET technology, outstanding high-end graphical interface and the availability of numerous applications.

The demonstration download software is a fully functional version that supports Windows CE 4.2.

Kuka Controls is making this software available to allow end users to evaluate CeWin without restrictions.

The only caveat is a time-out function which allows the software to operate for a limited time period without resetting.

"The demo software program has been very successful in fostering sales", notes Gerd Lammers, Director of Sales and Marketing.

"Most developers are impressed with the ease of installation and the advantages of adding Windows XP to their systems, both for next generation and existing system enhancement".

Windows XP advantages include the numerous visualisation capabilities as well as the availability of numerous applications resulting from the use of Windows XP Embedded.

CeWin version 3.1 offers higher system reliability as it can safely handle Windows XP system exceptions caused by a faulty driver.

If an exception occurs, CeWin notifies Windows CE of the event, but real-time system capability and latencies remain unchanged.

The use of only one PC component eliminates the traditional second system, in turn increasing overall system reliability while reducing system costs.

In many applications, customers have also reduced the size, weight and power consumption of the hardware systems.
