Available now from Laplace Instruments, Earwigg is a new serial comms development and debugging tool, combining a Windows software utility program and an adapter which fits inline with the serial link to be investigated.

The Earwigg enables the traffic on the serial link to be copied to the screen on the host PC without affecting the target serial link in any way.

This totally non-intrusive technique is unique to the Earwigg and avoids the problem associated with all other serial tools which introduce timing delays in the target link.

This technique provides a very convenient and simple means of discovering exactly what is happening on the target link.

The Earwigg displays on the host PC a copy of all the traffic on the target link, including direction of flow and all non-printing characters.

The display can be switched to show in either Hex, Dec or ASCII format and search strings can be entered which will trigger the reception of data.

In addition to the unique Earwigging mode described above, the Earwigg software acts as a powerful terminal package with many extended features.

Prices are exceptionally low, with a complete system available for around £100.
