Switcher family boosted to 1500W

Lambda has extended its Alpha family of configurable switch-mode power supplies with the introduction of a new 1500W output version, the Alpha 1500.

Lambda has extended its Alpha family of configurable switch-mode power supplies with the introduction of a new 1500W output version, the Alpha 1500 Delivering 10% more output power than its nearest competitive equivalent, the new unit is ideal for power-hungry applications such as image processing, disk arrays, high-end IT and telecomms

Martin Southam, Lambda's UK sales director comments: "Since the introduction of the first 400 and 600W Alpha units customer power demands have steadily risen.

Customer demand saw the introduction of a 1000W unit last year and now these same customers want 1500W in a case size matching our competitors' 1000W products.

The advantage of configurable power supplies is that our design team can quickly upgrade product platforms to satisfy our customers' needs".

Careful redesign has allowed Lambda designers to increase the output of Alpha's forward convertors to 500W.

With eight configurable module slots instead of the seven to be found on the 1000W unit, the new 1500W Alpha has a slightly larger footprint.

Height and length remain the same at 63 x 279mm, whereas width has been increased to 200mm.

With an input voltage range of between 207 and 264V AC and an input frequency of 47 to 63Hz, the CE-marked Alpha 1500 has a start-up time of less than 0.5s.

Output adjustment is via a multiturn potentiometer with an accuracy to within 1%.

Load regulation (0 to 100% loading) is better than 0.5% with remote sensing and better than 2% without remote sensing.

Overcurrent and overvoltage are fitted as standard as is thermal protection.

Input protection is in accordance with EN61000-4-2/4/5 level 3.

Cooling is provided by two 60mm fans.

The new power supply has built-in power factor correction and harmonic correction in accordance with EN61000-3-2.

The latest addition means that Lambda now offers its leading power supply across the full range of power levels from 400 to 1500W with up to 14 outputs.

Alpha's inherently flexible modular design means that for those customers whose voltage requirements lie beyond that of standard units, Lambda is able to provide a carefully matched solution that is easy to specify, easy to fit, easy to buy. Request a free brochure from Lambda ...
