File system and Flash software work with VxWorks

A Logic Technology product story

Wind River Systems is to feature Datalight's Reliance transactional file system and FlashFX Pro Flash driver software as a complement to the latest versions of its VxWorks-based platforms.

Datalight has signed an agreement for Wind River Systems to feature Datalight's Reliance transactional file system and FlashFX Pro Flash driver software as a complement to the latest versions of its VxWorks-based platforms.

As part of Datalight's special trial programme, full source evaluation versions of Datalight's products will be included in Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition as well as the VxWorks editions of the Wind River Market Specific Platforms.

Datalight's Reliance is the first file system designed specifically for resource-constrained embedded devices that preserves both file system data and meta data when unexpected power losses occur.

FlashFX Pro, a multithreaded Flash driver, supports more than 150 different types of the latest NAND and NOR resident Flash out of the box.

Wind River supports Datalight's special trial programme because Reliance and FlashFX Pro complement Wind River's DSO solutions, specifically related to device storage support.

A Wind River partner, Datalight is trusted to deliver proven technology and a strong commitment to customer success.

"We are honoured to be selected by Wind River to go in the box with its industry-leading real-time operating system, VxWorks", said Roy Sherrill, Datalight CEO.

"Having immediate access to Datalight's source code will further Wind River's customers' ability to design devices that offer higher reliability and better performance".

"Our customers look to Wind River to help them standardise on choice and develop and run their device software faster and more reliably", said John Fanelli, Vice President, Product Planning and Management.

"Datalight's FlashFX Pro and Reliance provide additional choices for high-performance Flash support and fail-safe file systems".

"By complementing the standard Flash support and standard file system in Wind River's VxWorks-based platforms, Datalight's products help Wind River's customers execute on DSO".

Wind River customers have already implemented the Datalight products to fully optimise their VxWorks-based device software designs.

Thomson Technology, an innovator in the design, development and manufacture of electrical systems and products for the power generation industry based in Vancouver, Canada, recently implemented both Reliance and FlashFX Pro in a VxWorks-based design.

"We needed to be able to confidently write data to Flash and to safeguard data when the controllers were unexpectedly powered down", said Dale Hughes, Director of Research and Development, Thomson Technology.

"By integrating Datalight's FlashFX Pro and Reliance with Wind River's VxWorks into our design, we were able to provide failsafe reliability and eliminate the likelihood of file system corruption".

By integrating Reliance and FlashFX Pro into its VxWorks design, the Thomson team safeguarded the controller's file system, ultimately lowering field service costs and saving Thomson Technology's customers money.

Datalight products are available via Logic Technology.
