Legend raises sales in spite of SARS
Legend Group has announced its results for the first quarter ended 30th June 2003.

Profit attributable to shareholders was approximately HK $278 million (US $35.73 million), up 3.9%.
Gross profit margin also showed a steady rise from last year's 15.49% to this year's 15.63%.
Yang Yuanqing, President and CEO of Legend said: "During this quarter, the China IT market was impacted by the SARS outbreak with the corporate IT market heavily affected.
The retail market in epidemic regions was also seriously impacted during April and May".
"However, the group performed well despite the challenges brought about by SARS, with growth recorded both in turnover as well as in profit for the quarter.
Whilst SARS did pose certain short-term disruptions to the market, China IT continued to demonstrate great potential.
During the epidemic, consumers elected for reputable brand names and Legend successfully implemented an innovative sales model that achieved excellent results.
The computer shipment of the Group grew 21.6% as compared with last year and outperformed the market during the same period".
In addition, Legend witnessed a growth in the demand for its notebook computers with increased shipments up 52% compared with the same period last year.
Consumer desktop computers experienced a 24.5% increase in shipment and mobile handsets a dramatic increase of over 64%.
