Handheld tester runs three telecomms tests in one

A LEM Instruments product story

LEM has added the Iso-Tel 500 to its range of insulation and earth testing products for telecomms applications.

LEM has added the Iso-Tel 500 to its range of insulation and earth testing products for telecomms applications.

The new instrument combines three instruments in one: a universal insulation tester incorporating low resistance and continuity tests at 200mA; an industry-standard multimeter; and capacitance and cable length measurement.

The handheld unit is small and robust, being smaller than most single-function insulation testers.

The Iso-Tel 500 measures insulation resistance up to 20Gohm with test voltages from 50 to 500V.

The high-end multimeter offers frequency measurement up to 1kHz and true RMS voltage measurement up to 600V AC/DC.

The instrument serves a wide range of applications, including low-voltage insulation measurements with 50, 100, 250 and 500V ranges for sensitive areas.

Additionally, it can identify the insulation quality of materials, cables, motor or transformer windings by measuring polarisation index and dielectric absorption ratio as defined by international standards.

Low-resistance measurements are performed according to IEC61557 with a short-circuit current of 50 or 200mA.

This provides compliance with standard measurements of resistance of both non-fused earth conductor connections and equipotential busbars.

The Iso-Tel 500 incorporates a fast and fully automatic continuity check with a buzzer threshold selectable between 0.2 and 50ohm.

Its fast response time of less than 100ms allows easy checks of low-resistance connections.

Features conforming to IEC1010 provide confidence when working in hazardous voltage areas, while conformance to EMC standards ensures high reliability through reduced susceptibility to electromagnetic influences.
