Integrated VCOs pack in more microwave
functions
Now available from Link Microtek is a new range of low-cost, plastic-packaged MMIC voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) that feature a high level of integrated functionality.
Now available from Link Microtek is a new range of low-cost, plastic-packaged MMIC voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) that feature a high level of integrated functionality to minimise the need for external components and to help reduce system size and cost Manufactured by Hittite Microwave Corporation using GaAs InGaP heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) technology, the new VCOs are supplied in industry-standard surface-mount packages and offer a typical phase noise performance of -110dBc/Hz at 100kHz, which easily exceeds the requirements of today's commercial communication systems

Radiation monitor has inbuilt data logger
A new radio-frequency radiation monitor incorporates a data logging function that enables the unit to store up to 30,000 data points for subsequent downloading and analysis on a PC.
The product line consists of the HMC358MS8G device - a C-band VCO with integrated buffer amplifier - and the HMC398QS16G and HMC401QS16G Ku-band VCOs, both of which offer integrated frequency dividers to feed system phase-locked loop (PLL) circuits.
In addition, all three parts feature integral resonator, tuning varactor and negative resistance circuitry.
The HMC358MS8G C-band device operates over the frequency range 5.6 to 6.8GHz, with an output power of greater than 10dBm from a 3.0V supply voltage.
It is ideal for use in applications such as HiperLAN, point-to-point radios and WLAN systems.
The HMC398QS16G device offers a frequency range of 14.0 to 15.0GHz and an output power of more than +6dBm, while the HMC401SQ16G covers the range 13.2 to 13.5GHz with an output power of greater than -8dBm.
Both Ku-band parts operate from a 5V supply voltage and are ideal for use in point-to-point radio and VSAT applications.
Although the currently available versions cover frequencies from 5 to 15GHz, Hittite has shown that the technology is scalable up to 30GHz, and so future additions to the range can be expected.
