Link Microtek has produced a computer-based training package that will serve as a valuable resource for anyone who has to deal with RF radiation in the course of their work.

As well as appealing to telecommunications maintenance engineers, the package will also benefit employees in a variety of other sectors, including operators of industrial heat-sealing machines, military personnel involved with radar or communications equipment, and medical and scientific staff providing diathermy treatment.

Supplied on CD-ROM in a choice of two versions designated RF Worker and RF Surveyor, the new package enables users to learn the fundamentals of RF safety at their own pace.

RF Worker is essentially an introduction to the subject, whereas RF Surveyor includes additional content for those requiring a deeper understanding of the technical issues, particularly with regard to measuring RF radiation levels.

Both versions cover the basics of what RF is, how RF emissions are known to affect the human body, how to use items of RF safety equipment such as personal monitors, and an overview of modern safety guidelines.

Designed for ease of use, the training package features simple navigation buttons and a concise help section.

By rolling the cursor over the section headings in the main menu, the user can view pop-up summaries of each subject, while indicators alongside the headings change colour as each section is completed.

A self-assessment section enables users to monitor their understanding of the material presented.

Also available at the click of a button is a useful glossary of terms providing relatively simple explanations of common terms and units associated with RF radiation.
