Meter puts low-frequency fields on trial

The Narda ELT-400 low-frequency radiation safety meter enables EMC test houses to measure ELF (extremely low frequency) magnetic fields from household electrical appliances in accordance with the new EN 50366:2003 standard.
Demand for such measurements is set to increase because a future requirement for the CE certification of many electrical products will be the need to demonstrate compliance with the ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection) personal threshold values for low-frequency magnetic fields.
Covering the frequency range 1Hz to 400kHz, the ELT-400 meter features an integrated "shaped time domain" function that allows simple measurement of the complex waveforms often generated by household appliances due to the presence of harmonics or multiple source frequencies.
At the touch of a single key, the meter automatically weights the field strength measurements at different frequencies, then calculates the overall value and displays it as a total percentage of the ICNIRP safety guideline.
If required, the field strength can also be displayed in millitesla units as either RMS or peak values.
The ELT-400 is supplied complete with an isotropic probe, which can be attached to the meter either directly or via a suitable cable, depending on the requirements of the application.
