Small-form-factor transponders run up to 80km

New 10Gbit/s transponders in the 300-pin MSA small form factor (SFF) package form part of a collaborative design and manufacturing effort between TriQuint Optoelectronics and Network Elements.

Providing exceptional performance at low cost for all reaches up to 80km, the new SFF transponders combine Network Elements' next-generation module architecture with TriQuint's Qube optical engines, which are based on the company's proprietary planar packaging technology and allow integration of increased functionality such as internal drivers and differential data inputs.

TriQuint will offer cobranded, uncooled and cooled SFF 300-pin modules as an extension of its existing 10Gbit/s module product line, which includes large form factor (LFF) 300-pin and XFP products.

The new TriQuint product codes - TE64M1, CE64S2 and CE64L2 - will support SR-1, IR-2 and LR-2 applications, respectively, with the cooled CE64S2 and CE64L2 transponders also offering DWDM capability.

All three products support multirate capability for OC-192, 10GbE and G.709 applications.

Using a common module architecture for all reaches, the new transponders will also be fully MSA300 Rev 4 compliant and will feature closed-loop software optics control, line-side and system-side data loopback, as well as adjustable phase/offset slicing levels.

These 300-pin transponders will additionally offer low power consumption (less than 4W typical for uncooled products) and will contain a high-performance integrated jitter filter.
