Link Microtek, the exclusive UK distributor for Canadian manufacturer Focus Microwaves, has signed a technology collaboration and support agreement with specialist design consultancy Cambridge RF.

Link Microtek, the exclusive UK distributor for Canadian manufacturer Focus Microwaves, has signed a technology collaboration and support agreement with specialist design consultancy Cambridge RF Under the terms of the agreement, Cambridge RF has been supplied with Focus's latest load-pull tuner system technology and in return will provide consultancy services for Link's customer base, using the equipment to characterise transistors and facilitate the optimisation of amplifier designs

At the heart of the system is the Focus CCMT computer-controlled microwave tuner, which covers the frequency range 0.8 to 3.0GHz and can be used for either very high-power or extremely low-power amplifier designs.

Commenting on the agreement, Jeff Hinsley, Instrument Sales Engineer for Link Microtek, said: "With this arrangement in place, our customers can now benefit from specialist load-pull consultancy services, and we also have an excellent reference site for potential Focus customers".

"We expect to see most interest from manufacturers in the wireless communications sector".

For Cambridge RF, Managing Director Chris Potter commented: "Although most RF engineers are familiar with matching transistors for maximum gain or good efficiency or low noise, it is not widely appreciated that an automated load-pull system can also map out matching information for linearity, allowing informed design tradeoff decisions to be made".

"Modern wireless systems demand much better linearity, making load-pull an indispensable technique for improving performance and manufacturability".
