Digital attenuators promise fine
resolution
A family of GaAs MMIC digital attenuators offer resolutions down to 0.25dB, together with high linearity, excellent accuracy and RoHS compliance.
Now available from RF and microwave component specialist Link Microtek is a family of GaAs MMIC digital attenuators that offer resolutions down to 0.25dB, together with high linearity, excellent accuracy and RoHS compliance Manufactured by Hittite Microwave Corporation, the five new positive-control broadband attenuators feature an input IP3 of typically +50dBm and are suitable for use in mobile communications infrastructure, WLAN and WiMAX wireless systems, and other applications in the ISM band

The HMC539LP3E 5bit digital attenuator offers the industry's first ultra-fine resolution of 0.25dB.
Attenuation steps range from 0.25 to 7.75dB, with a typical step error of +/-0.05dB.
Covering the frequency range DC to 4GHz, this highly accurate device provides an excellent alternative to MESFET voltage-variable attenuators in applications where high IP3 is required throughout the attenuator's dynamic range.
The HMC540LP3E is a general-purpose 4bit digital attenuator that operates from DC to 5.5GHz and provides an attenuation range of 1 to 15dB in 1dB steps, with a low insertion loss of 1.1dB at 3.5GHz.
The HMC541LP3E 1bit digital attenuator covers the frequency range DC to 5GHz and provides a single attenuation step of 10dB.
This wideband device offers very low VSWR and an excellent attenuation accuracy of +/-0.2dB.
Completing the family are the HMC603MS10E and the HMC603QS16E 5bit digital attenuators, which operate over the frequency range 0.7 to 3.8GHz and provide an attenuation range of 0.5 to 15.5dB, with an attenuation accuracy of +/-0.2dB from 0.8 to 2.7GHz.
The HMC539, HMC540 and HMC541 attenuators are housed in low-cost leadless QFN 3 x 3mm SMT packages, while the HMC603 is available in a choice of 10-lead MSOP or 16-lead QSOP SMT packages, which are drop-in replacements for competitors' devices.
