Optical modulator goes surface-mount
A new optical modulator driver provides a low-cost surface-mount solution for Mach-Zehnder applications in high-speed fibre-optic communication systems.
The new TGA4954-SL optical modulator driver offered by Link Microtek has been designed to provide a low-cost surface-mount solution for Mach-Zehnder applications in high-speed fibre-optic communication systems Manufactured by TriQuint Semiconductor, the new MSA-compatible device comprises two high-performance wideband amplifiers combined with off-chip circuitry, all assembled into a surface-mount package measuring only 11.4 x 8.9 x 2.0mm
The TGA4954-SL provides a number of essential features for designers of metropolitan and long-haul systems, including datarates of 9.9 to 12.5Gbit/s, a wide drive range of 3 to 9V, low power dissipation of typically just 1.1W, low rail ripple and low output jitter.
Other key performance specifications include 25ps edge rates, a low input drive sensitivity of 250mV, input and output return losses of 9dB, and a noise figure of 2.5dB at 3GHz.
