Light Blue Optics has been awarded a GBP 75,000 grant towards the development of its prototype miniature colour projector.

Light Blue Optics, developer of the revolutionary PVPro technology for miniature projectors, has been awarded a GBP 75,000 grant towards the development of its miniature colour prototype The research and development funding is part of the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) scheme, and grants were awarded by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) to some of the region's most innovative and ideas-driven companies

Light Blue Optics' PVPro technology uniquely delivers the key benefits of compact size, low power consumption, robustness and ease-of-use, making it ideally suited for a variety of applications.

Future products will range from truly pocket-sized miniature projector accessories for iPods, phones, and other mobile devices, to a wide array of consumer electronics products with integrated projection capabilities.

In February 2006, Light Blue Optics announced a 'micro-mini' monochrome unit which is similar in size and shape to a typical matchbox (62cm3 in volume).

The EEDA award will help contribute to the next generation of this unit, which will use three miniature lasers to display full colour video images.

In addition, the company is expanding its development team to help meet increased levels of customer demand.

Edward Buckley, Director and cofounder of Light Blue Optics, commented: "We are excited to have the uniqueness of our PVPro solution recognised in this way by the EEDA and the DTI".

"Light Blue Optics is working to achieve a vision of compact, mobile projection capabilities in a multitude of devices, and we appreciate the support of the EEDA in helping us to realise this".
