Antenna answers wireless device makers'
demands
Microminiature antenna combines high performance, small size and low cost for today's wireless consumer and enterprise electronic devices.
New from Laird Technologies, the BlackChip is an original microminiature antenna that combines innovative features of high performance, small size and low cost, which are the most ideal features for use in many of today's wireless consumer and enterprise electronic devices Wireless device designers are now recognising the important role a well designed antenna plays in establishing an optimum RF link

Antennas greatly affect a systems' RF link budget through pattern and gain characteristics, which are also significantly affected by the size of the antenna and its placement with the system.
As designers continue their demand for antennas to be small, operate across multiple frequencies and transmit flawlessly next to other components, Laird Technologies continues to meet the challenge.
The BlackChip antenna is the first device in a microminiature form factor that meets this market need.
The actual radiating element of the new Laird Technologies' BlackChip is an incredibly small 96mm3.
Its performance is better than 2dB peak gain across 2.4-2.5GHz and better than 3dB peak gain from 4.9 to 6.0GHz.
Its weight is only 0.21g, and it operates across a wide temperature range of -40 to +85C.
The antenna is ideal for many wireless device applications including 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and UWB.
The BlackChip antenna offers unobtrusive packaging and easy design implementation.
It has a robust mechanical design and is surface mountable for placement directly on the system board.
It can be placed along almost any board edge for optimum performance.
"The BlackChip is an extremely cost-effective single-solution dual-band high-performance antenna", said Craig Somach, Global Sales Director for Wireless and IBD Products.
"Wireless device manufacturers are demanding this kind of performance in a miniature antenna".
"Laird Technologies hit the bullseye of the target with this new product".
These RoHS compliant BlackChip antennas are priced at US $0.59 for 2000 pieces (tape and reel) and are available in stock now, direct and through distribution.
