Narrowband modules take radio protocols onboard

LPRS has applied its "easy-Radio" technology to a range of multichannel ultra-narrowband synthesised RF modules to produce a series of radio links for applications where reliability is paramount.

Low Power Radio Solutions has applied its novel "easy-Radio" technology to a range of multichannel ultra-narrowband synthesised RF modules to produce a series of radio links for applications where reliable communications are of paramount importance.

The CDPTX2-ER transmitter and CDPRX2-ER receiver are available for operation across Europe in either the 433-434 or 869-870MHz ISM band, and come complete with LPRS's patented easy-Radio communications software embedded onboard so that OEMs can concentrate on their own applications rather than worry about radiocommunications protocols.

The CDPTX2 is a UHF narrowband FM transmitter with a PLL-controlled crystal oscillator for high frequency stability of better than 2kHz.

Its narrowband direct FSK modulation allows for far more efficient use of the spectrum than many competing SAW-based designs, with up to 11 channels available between 869.725 and 869.975MHz or 33 channels between 433.875 and 434.65MHz.

The matching CDPRX2 receiver is a PCB-mounting crystal-controlled double-superhet design for high signal sensitivity (typically 120dBm), high selectivity (+/-7.5kHz) and high frequency stability.

The high sensitivity and selectivity, in particular, are the keys to the performance of the matched transmitter and receiver.

The CDPTX2 -ER easy-Radio enabled transmitter will accept most forms of standard data at the input, convert the data to an efficient over-air format and transmit it to the CDPRX2-ER easy-Radio enabled receiver.

The receiver then feeds the data to the user's host processor, converted back to its original state.

The combination of the high performance of the modules and the high efficiency of the easy-Radio software provide easily reproducible reliable performance, with sustainable data transfer rates of 4.8Kbit/s over free-space ranges over 300m for the 869-870MHz band and over 1km for the 433-434MHz band.

Indoor ranges are better than 50 and 150m, respectively.

Both devices run from a single 3-5V supply, with battery-friendly maximum current drains of 37 and 32mA for the transmitter and receiver, respectively.

Both are fully enclosed in compact metal cases to ensure compliance with all relevant radio and EMC regulations.

Dimensions are 36 x 26 x 10 and 50 x 30 x 9mm for the transmitter and receiver, respectively.

The CDPTX2-ER and CDPRX2-ER use Circuit Design RF engines from the CDP02 range.

They are part of a family of easy-Radio devices from Low Power Radio Solutions.
