SCSI technology enters the seventh generation
LSI Logic has announced commercial availability of the LSI53C1030 Ultra320 SCSI controller chip and the start of a worldwide product sampling and demo program featuring LSI Logic's Ultra320 products.
"We've enjoyed a rewarding relationship with LSI Logic and we're glad we could embark on this new effort together", William Chien, director of product management for the Personal Web Video division at Pinnacle Systems.
"With our mutual successes in the professional and prosumer markets, we're developing a product that meets the technical and financial demands of the consumer market".
The Pinnacle Systems personal video production solution is being developed around LSI Logic's iDVx codec, the only single-chip solution capable of real-time encoding and decoding of a single stream of DV-25 or MPEG video.
The codec also provides real-time transcoding (converting) between DV and MPEG bit streams, from an analogue or digital video source.
The iDVx codec contains an integrated PCI interface, plus industry-standard audio and video interfaces, and requires only 8Mbyte of SDRAM, making it ideal for low-cost PCI add-in board designs.
Furthermore, based on LSI Logic's fourth generation codec architecture, the iDVx codec delivers outstanding video quality in real time.
"We are pleased to see Pinnacle Systems, one of the major players in consumer digital video editing, adapt LSI Logic's iDVx technology to bring advanced features and performance to the home", said Bob Saffari, marketing director of LSI Logic's Advanced Video Products.
"Leveraging our relationship and leadership positions to codevelop products ultimately gives the end user a high-quality system that enhances the video creation and editing experience".
