Single-chip PHY extends to industrial
temperatures
LSI Logic has extended the operating temperature range of its popular 10/100 PHY, which now operates in rugged industrial temperature environments of -40 to +85C.
LSI Logic has extended the operating temperature range of its popular 10/100 PHY, which now operates in rugged industrial temperature environments of -40 to +85C The single-chip L80227 device is now available to be deployed in either 100Mbit/s (100Base-TX) or 10Mbit/s (10Base-T) for embedded, telecommunications and industrial control twisted-pair Ethernet applications that must function reliably in uncontrolled environmental conditions

SCSI technology enters the seventh generation
LSI Logic has announced commercial availability of the LSI53C1030 Ultra320 SCSI controller chip and the start of a worldwide product sampling and demo program featuring LSI Logic's Ultra320 products.
A part of LSI Logic's family of single channel PHY products, the L80227 is ideally suited as a media interface for applications where the chip's operating environment is widely variable, including factory floor equipment, industrial computers, DSL head ends, external satellite receivers, remote sensing, external wireless, and transportation.
"Our customers are moving more intelligence to the periphery of the networks", said Mark Nelson, director of LSI Logic communications marketing.
"With its increased bandwidth and declining costs, Ethernet has emerged as the dominant data communications technology quickly finding newly developed applications or replacing older, slower technologies such as RS232.
To meet this growing trend in monitoring, control, voice and video applications outside the traditional Local Area Network (LAN), we are now offering a proven 10/100 PHY device designed expressly for extreme environments".
Using the on-chip auto-negotiation algorithm, the L80227 can automatically configure the PHY channel to independently operate at 100 or 10Mbit/s in either full or half-duplex mode.
Internal output wave-shaping circuitry and an on-chip filter in the PHY eliminates the need for external filters required in 100Base-TX and 10Base-T applications.
In addition, the L80227 uses the management interface (MI) serial port to access eight 16bit registers that contain configuration inputs, status outputs and device capabilities enabling customisation for use in a wide variety of applications.
Available in a 64-pin LQFP package, the LSI Logic L80227 combines the benefits of a small package with IEEE specification performance over the full operating temperature range of -40 to +85C.
The L80227 exemplifies LSI Logic's commitment to offering dynamic standard products to complement and reinforce its robust library of silicon-proven CoreWare designs.
