LSI Logic's second-generation DiMeNsion 8602 (DMN-8602) DVD recorder system processor is designed into Samsung's line of combination VHS/DVD recorder products.
DVD recorder chip integrates more functions
LSI Logic has developed a second-generation, single-chip DVD recorder system processor based on its successful and field-proven Domino architecture.
By leveraging the DMN-8602, Packard Bell is able to reduce overall system costs and design complexity for feature-rich DVD recorder products.
"The flexible architecture of LSI Logic's DMN-8602 allows us to cost-effectively deliver more powerful video recording capabilities to consumers", said Alexandre Vecchietti, Sales and Marketing Director of EMEA, Digital Home Business Unit, Packard Bell.
"We were particularly pleased with LSI Logic's proprietary noise reduction capabilities, which not only improve the quality of the DVD recording, but also reduce the space required when burning to a DVD disk".
The industry-leading DMN-8602 has an integrated NTSC/Pal TV encoder and a USB controller, and requires only a single unified memory subsystem.
The integration of these functions into a single chip reduces design complexity and provides system designers with a considerable savings on the overall bill-of-materials (BOM).
Additional advantages of the DMN-8602 include LSI Logic's proprietary pre- and post-processing technologies, which provide advanced progressive scan output and impressive noise handling on analogue inputs; and Direct Digital Dub technology, which reduces complexities by allowing consumers to control the camcorder with one-touch via the DVD recorder remote.
"We are pleased that Packard Bell has selected the DMN-8602, which is helping to drive further success and innovation in the fast-growing DVD recorder market, expected to reach as high as 17 million units by year-end", said Wilkie Lau, Director of Customer Marketing for LSI Logic's Consumer Products Division.
"LSI Logic remains focused on delivering next-generation solutions to products at the centre of the digital home".
