DVD recorder processors keep it digital
The DMN-8623 and DMN-8673 are the first single-chip DVD recorder system processors to support digital TV (DTV) reception for DVD and hard disk drive (HDD)/DVD combo recorders.
ANT Fresco browser ported to LSI set-top box SoC
Available now from LSI Logic is the company's software development platform (SDP) for the SC2000 digital set-top box (STB) chip featuring ANT's embedded Fresco browser.
With the integration of digital TV reception into advanced DVD recorders or hard disk drive (HDD)/DVD combination recorder products, manufacturers can address the accelerating transition from analogue TV to digital TV broadcast in Europe and other geographies.
"Cabot's expertise in digital broadcast software is complementary to LSI Logic's strengths in HDD and DVD recording", said Darren Standing, Business Development Manager, Cabot Communications.
"By integrating Cabot's pan-European DVB middleware, which includes support for MHEG-5, with LSI logic's new DoMiNo processors, we can provide our mutual customers with a very effective DTV solution for DVD recorders".

Core embeds reconfigurable logic into SoCs
LSI Logic has announced the immediate availability of the LiquidLogic core, an embedded programmable logic technology that can be used in both ASIC and ASSP SoC designs.
Aurora is a pan-European, open standards-based middleware stack for free-to-air digital terrestrial and satellite receivers that can be configured to meet the unique market requirements of any DTT network and interactive standard, including MHEG-5 and MHP.
The tight integration of the Aurora stack with LSI Logic's DMN-8623 and DMN-8673 DVD recorder processor solutions will ensure that both the functionality and user experience of DVD recorders are optimised.
"By integrating Aurora, we're able to extend our leadership position in DVD recorder solutions and enable our customers to address new market opportunities faster and with less risk", said Neil Bullock, Strategic Marketing Manager for LSI Logic's Consumer Products Group.
"We are delighted to partner with a proven market leader like Cabot for our new DoMiNo processors".
Both the DMN-8623 and DMN-8673 are highly integrated single-chip DVD recorder solutions, which essentially integrate the key functions of a DVD recorder and a set-top box, significantly reducing the bill-of-material cost.
The DMN-8623 supports the recording and playback of one digital or analogue TV channel or video stream for single-drive DVD recorders, while the DMN-8673 supports the recording of two digital or analogue TV streams to a hard disk drive with simultaneous playback in combination HDD/DVD recorders.
