Compressor board puts HDTV in space

NASA is using the HDTVxpress Compressor PCI board to compress and transmit high-definition content in real time - a new development in the US space programme.
With its fifth-generation broadcast-quality encoding chipsets, LSI Logic is a recognised leader in advanced compression technologies that have been enabling superior video quality for over a decade.
LSI Logic also worked with NASA to ensure the product meets the agency's compliance with security, gravity and stress requirements so that it retains the quality, accuracy and speed of HD video during missions.

The HDTVxpress Compressor PCI encoder board enables contribution quality (4:2:2 I-Frame and Long GOP encoding) and distribution quality (4:2:0 MP@HL LGOP encoding), and includes an HD-SDI input (SMPTE 292M) and a DVB-ASI (Transport) output.
Leveraging the field-proven LSI Logic DoMiNo architecture, the HDTVxpress Compressor encoder board supports real-time HD capture and provides high-quality MPEG-2 video compression for 720 and 1080 formats at multiple resolutions and frame rates.
The DoMiNo architecture is also capable of audio compression.
Other applications and markets poised to reap the benefits of LSI Logic's HDTVxpress Compressor board include live events over satellite for sports and entertainment, high-resolution surveillance, digital cinema services via satellite/network, telemedicine and HD video servers.
