The Zevio 1020 solution is designed to achieve best-in-class cost performance with lowest power consumption by distributing the tasks among multiple processors running at optimal speeds.
The Zevio 1020 processor is highly integrated and includes an ARM9 core for general purpose processing, a ZSP400 for multimedia processing (such as H.264 BP video decoding), a 3D graphics core, and a 2D/3D MIDI sound core.
It also integrates a video DAC (digital-to-analogue convertor) for direct TV output and an SDIO (secure digital input/output) card slot for data storage or additional peripheral expansion.
To enable longer battery life for portable consumer electronics products, the Zevio 1020 processor is optimised for low power-consumption, typically consuming less than 150mW.
Co-developed by mobile entertainment design experts from Koto Co, the 3D graphics core is designed with a focus on low cost, low power and ease of programmability (as is the LSI 3D sound core).
"Application processors that can effectively address the unique requirements of digital consumer appliances priced under $100 - a key price point for mass market adoption - will succeed in this growing market", said Stephanie Ethier, Industry Analyst, In-Stat.
"With the Zevio 1020 processor's feature-performance combination and software ecosystem, LSI is strategically positioned to enable digital consumer appliance products, which are expected to reach 81 million units worldwide by 2010".
LSI has engaged with a number of software development partners to provide complete solutions for the Zevio family of products including Access, Hi Corp and Techno Mathematical.
Access's flagship NetFront web browser and real-time operating system, Hi's real-time 3D graphics middleware MascotCapsule, and TMC's low-power mobile video decoding algorithms all contribute to faster time to market and low power consumption for products built with the Zevio 1020 processor.
The Zevio 1020 application processor is based on the LSI Zevio architecture that enables system designers to cost-effectively design complex, low-power and highly integrated system-on-a-chip solutions.
The multicore architecture allows seamless integration of IP cores for product-specific customisation to address unique customer requirements.
The Zevio 1020 solution is the first standard product available from the Zevio multimedia application processor family.
The Zevio 1020 processor is available now and offered in 208-pin PQFP and 204 TFBGA packages.
Pricing is under US $8 in volume quantities.
