Huge growth in storage arrays

Chip company has shipped more than two million SAS IC units.

LSI has shipped more than two million SAS (serial attached storage) IC units.

This reflects the demand for LSI SAS controller, expander and RoC (RAID-on-Chip) products among enterprise server and external storage OEMs at a time when SAS adoption is accelerating.

"LSI has been experiencing tremendous demand for SAS IC solutions as evident by the more than two million units shipped", says Robin Wagner, Senior Director of Marketing, Storage Components Group, Network and Storage Product Group, LSI.

"Our early involvement with the SAS standard combined with the extensive interoperability and OEM system integration testing conducted with our products, has enabled us to develop a robust IC portfolio that has been very successful in securing OEM design wins".

"As SAS continues to gain traction in the market, we expect shipments to continue to ramp not only for our IC products, but for our entire silicon-to-systems portfolio".

In 2007, IDC estimates that SAS HDD (hard disk drive) shipments to enterprise storage and server applications will be more than triple those of 2006.

This year IDC predicts that SAS will achieve 26 % enterprise market share, out-shipping all other drive interfaces.
