Two new technical guides provide vital information on power management and power quality "The Livingston guide to electrical power management" and "The Livingston guide to managing your power quality" are available free of charge from the company's new website

"The Livingston guide to managing your power quality" helps those responsible for industrial and commercial site power supplies understand the basics of power quality.

The guide is designed to provide an understanding towards diagnosis of poor power quality, help identify its causes and reduce future risks.

While often poorly understood, it is an important subject as poor power quality affects uptime and can cause computers and production lines to shut down incurring high costs in terms of repair, clean-up and lost production or service.

"The Livingston guide to electrical power management" gives a well structured approach to managing electrical power and invites customers to follow nine major guidelines.

With the introduction of the Climate Change Levy last year, it is even more important that companies properly manage their electrical power to achieve cost savings, minimise resource depletion and avoid government imposed penalties.

"Power can be a very complicated subject but as a highly regulated issue companies must either comply or face very strict penalties", said Geoff Kempster, Inventory Manager for Livingston UK.

"The guides aim to give our customers a basic understanding of the issues surrounding power quality and power management and they have so far been very well received".

Livingston has recently increased its power quality inventory by 37% to meet customer demand.

This significant increase in demand, and subsequent investment, in its power monitoring product range is a direct result of the Climate Change Levy, a commitment made by developed countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% to below 1990 levels over the period 2008-2012.

The UK has also set itself a domestic objective to achieve a 20% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2010.

As companies undertake compliance projects to avoid hefty surcharges they are turning to Livingston for test equipment to help develop detailed energy surveys and monitor power quality, reliability and suitability.
