LynuxWorks has released a Linux 2.6 board support package (BSP), BlueCat Linux 5.0, for Kontron's Intel-based PCI boards, including the CP306 The BlueCat 5.0 BSP provides complete board support including a revamped disk-on-chip driver for Linux 2.6 operability in a variety of embedded applications for the military, telecommunication, industrial and medical industries

The new BlueCat Linux 5.0 BSP represents LynuxWorks' commitment in supporting Kontron's complete 3U CompactPCI (cPCI) product line with the benefits of Linux 2.6.

The availability of BlueCat Linux 5.0 provides designers an enhanced turnkey solution with optimal performance as well as the advanced real-time capabilities of the Linux 2.6 kernel for their embedded development projects.

Linux 2.6 provides support across the spectrum of embedded needs as well as enhancements in the general areas of determinism, reduced memory contention, and the leveraging of Posix for thread creation and management and task scheduling.

Kontron products are installed in a wide range of demanding applications that are typically connected, high-performance and dedicated.

Their products are designed to withstand higher temperature ranges, shock, vibration, moisture, dust, and electrical noise - all of which are characteristic of embedded computing applications.

"Our partnership with LynuxWorks enables us to offer our embedded system customers the industry's leading software technology with complete Linux 2.6 support", said Richard Moore, cPCI Product Manager, Kontron.

"With our CP306 product, we're leveraging Intel's leading technology with the high-performance, low-power Pentium M and Gigabit Ethernet in a small, rugged form-factor".

"Combined with BlueCat Linux 5.0 support, customers have the best-in-class hardware and software for their design needs".

"Linux is easily the fastest growing operating system in the embedded world and Linux 2.6 will undoubtedly accelerate that growth", said Bob Morris, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, LynuxWorks.

"As adoption of the Linux 2.6 kernel increases, LynuxWorks continues to see the benefits to our partners and their customers in a variety of industries including military/aerospace, industrial, medical and telecommunication".

"BlueCat 5.0 support enables Kontron to provide a turnkey solution that delivers optimal performance in an embedded environment to their customers and an opportunity for competitive differentiation and time-to-market advantage for the embedded project".

LynuxWorks BSPs also include advanced embedded tools such as VisualLynux and SpyKer to reduce production costs and speed time to market.

VisualLynux is an extension of Microsoft Visual Studio IDE that enables developers to build applications in a Windows host environment to accelerate development and improve product performance and quality.

LynuxWorks' SpyKer is the first dynamic instrumented system trace analyser that allows developers to accurately perform event tracing to gather, display and interact with data concerning their applications, and also to accelerate development and debugging with easy, anytime visibility into their product design process.

With these comprehensive tools and LynuxWorks' world-class sales and technical support, developers can enhance product quality and reliability and rapidly deploy products to market at a significantly lower cost.

The BlueCat Linux 5.0 package for the Kontron 3U cPCI Intel-based product line is generally available today.
