RTOS to integrate messaging middleware
LynuxWorks has teamed up with Real-Time Innovations to provide high-performance messaging and application integration solutions for developers of distributed real-time applications.
To help further support developers creating computing solutions for the military/aerospace industry, LynuxWorks has teamed up with Real-Time Innovations (RTI) to provide high-performance messaging and application integration solutions for developers of distributed real-time applications RTI is porting its RTI Data Distribution Service messaging middleware to LynuxWorks' new LynxOS-SE operating system

RTI Data Distribution Service is the world's highest performance and most widely used implementation of the Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) standard.
LynxOS-SE is the first and only time/space partitioned, hard real-time operating system (RTOS) based on Posix and ARINC standards for high-reliability environments such as those found in the military and aerospace industries.
The powerful combination of LynxOS-SE and RTI Data Distribution Service enables standards-based, high-performance access to time-critical data across a distributed system.

LynxOS-SE, announced today, is based on LynuxWorks' established LynxOS-178, the first and only operating system to receive FAA reusable software component (RSC) acceptance for safety-critical software.
The RTI Data Distribution Service solution for LynxOS-SE will allow developers to easily take advantage of LynxOS-SE's state-of-the-art networking stack, including the new quality-of-service (QoS) prioritisation capabilities for increased real-time performance between nodes.
As a result, developers are now able to seamlessly design distributed software components that can share data regardless of physical location.
"Network performance and reliability are critical for today's distributed embedded systems, as is secure networking technology, which ensures that the safety of the system is not compromised", said Robert Day, Vice President of Marketing, LynuxWorks.
"RTI Data Distribution Service expands on the networking capabilities we have built into LynxOS-SE.
The combined solution is ideal for the stringent needs of military systems".
David Barnett, Vice President of Product Management at RTI said: "RTI and LynuxWorks share a common vision of providing high-performance, standards-based solutions for the most demanding environments".
"Today's embedded applications in the military often need to share time-critical and mission-critical data over a widely distributed system".
"RTI Data Distribution Service is a clear complement to LynxOS-SE for these safety-critical applications".
LynxOS-SE reaffirms LynuxWorks' longstanding support of open standards by offering a powerful combination of Posix and ARINC 653 compliance previously unavailable in the safety and security-critical market.
Additionally, like other LynxOS products, LynxOS-SE allows Linux applications to run unmodified along with native Posix and ARINC applications, which enables customers to take advantage of the many Linux third-party COTS applications and run them in a time/space partitioned, hard real-time environment.
RTI Data Distribution Service provides performance up to 20 times faster than other widely used messaging solutions.
It also includes a much richer set of built-in capabilities based on a powerful data-centric programming model and more than 20 configurable QoS policies.
This gives applications fine control over real-time behaviour, performance and resource utilisation.
Additionally, because the middleware is more adaptable, application logic is simplified, and greater efficiency is achieved through an overall reduction in processing and network overhead.
The RTI Data Distribution Service for LynxOS-SE will be available in October 2006.
