BlueCat-ME Linux offers the flexibility of open-source software using the Linux model and is configurable for use with the MicroBlaze processor.
"LynuxWorks strives to support the latest processors available so that developers have the widest range of choices when designing their devices", said Robert Day, Vice President of Marketing, LynuxWorks.
"Version 7 of the Xilinx MicroBlaze processor breaks new ground for embedded developers by offering additional performance and protection and our BlueCat-ME Linux takes full advantage of it".
The MicroBlaze v7 processor's MMU offers three operating levels: MMU with privileged mode, memory protection and virtual address translation, MPU with privileged mode and memory protection and privileged mode only.
The processor also has an upgraded compiler, GCC 4.1.1, with which both Xilinx and LynuxWorks will enable future improvements in system performance via optimisation of the compiler and operating system.
"The Xilinx MicroBlaze v7 processor opens new doors for the embedded developer", said Tim Erjavec, Director of Embedded and DSP Worldwide Marketing at Xilinx.
"LynuxWorks has long been among the only RTOS vendors to support both our MicroBlaze platform, as well as the PowerPC architecture implemented in our Virtex platform FPGAs".
BlueCat embedded Linux is an implementation of the 2.6 Linux kernel, which supports microprocessor control and is enhanced for use in a wide array of embedded systems, from small consumer devices to large-scale, multiCPU systems.
BlueCat Linux delivers the flexibility and cost benefits of open-source software.
It is constructed to be a stable, commercial-grade operating system that provides immediate productivity and optimised performance.
BlueCat Linux supports all the embedded processors that are available in Xilinx FPGAs and will continue to follow Xilinx' embedded processor roadmap, to ensure that there will always be an operating system available as processor architectures evolve.
