A revolutionary new product from a small Buxton-based company is now helping electronic designers save valuable costs in testing their designs.

A revolutionary new product from a small Buxton-based company is now helping electronic designers save valuable costs in testing their designs The innovative ESD/RF handheld tester was developed by David Goodway, a partner in dbTech of Buxton

The tester provides an effective way of identifying electromagnetic compatibility issues in products at an early stage of the design cycle, preventing hours of expensive test facility time.

Having developed the product, Goodway and his business partner Andrea Lewis at dbTech needed help with finding a manufacturing partner for the tester.

They turned to experts from the Manufacturing Advisory Service in the North West (MAS NW), which is delivered by the Manufacturing Institute.

MAS practitioner Julian Winn provided the company with a free diagnostic visit as part of the MAS service and advised on developing a business plan for the product.

Winn explained: "We started by looking at what the product is, what it does and what market research, if any, had been done".

"It very much involved going back to the beginning in order to build the business plan".

"As my background is in the electronics industry, I could see that dbTech had a really useful product, for which there would be a market".

"By the end of the day they were really happy with what had been planned and went on to find a manufacturer for their handheld tester".

dbTech partner Andrea Lewis commented: "We were grateful for the help".

"The knowledge we gained from MAS was very useful not only for that product but for our future projects as well".
