USABC approves ultracapacitor energy storage
USABC has approved Maxwell Technologies to develop a compact, low-cost, 48V ultracapacitor-based electrical energy storage module for applications in passenger vehicles.
This certification was granted after an extensive audit of Maxwell's Microelectronics unit verified that it meets aerospace industry-specific quality assurance standards for design, development, production, installation and servicing.
Michael Everett, Maxwell's Vice President, Technology Systems, said that the company is committed to continuous quality improvement across all of its product lines, and has created an internal quality infrastructure and culture that facilitate compliance with the requirements of such certification activities.
He noted that the underpinnings of Maxwell's strong quality system are common to most certification standards.
"Standards such as these clarify for Maxwell what is necessary to conform to each industry's specific expectations and allow for the creation of a generalised quality system structure that is consistent with those requirements and expectations", Everett said.
"By complying with the AS-9100 protocols, we enable our customers to reduce the amount of individual qualification and documentation activity they need to conduct to assure themselves of our qualifications as a vendor".
"The certification opens doors for Maxwell and our customers and facilitates utilisation of our products with confidence in their quality".
