Boostcap ultracapacitors provide backup power

A Maxwell Technologies product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Dec 11, 2009

Maxwell Technologies is increasing production capacity for small-cell Boostcap ultracapacitors to supply integrated backup power in enterprise storage products for solid-state drive (SSD) producers.

Maxwell is supplying production-level quantities of Boostcap ultracapacitor cells ranging from 10 to 25 farads for SSD power-loss protection.

David Schramm, Maxwell's chief executive officer and president, said.

'The compact, prismatic form factor of our Boostcap PC10 product even enables some SSD producers to integrate a mini-UPS system into their drives without modifying the form factor.

Boostcap ultracapacitor cells and multi-cell modules are said to provide safe and reliable power solutions for applications in consumer and industrial electronics, transportation and telecommunications.

Maxwell's Condis high-voltage grading and coupling capacitors help to ensure the safety and reliability of electric utility infrastructure and other applications involving transport, distribution and measurement of high-voltage electrical energy.

Its radiation-mitigated microelectronic products include power modules, memory modules and single-board computers that incorporate commercial silicon for performance and reliability in aerospace applications.
