Speedy frugal convertors take on serial interfaces

A Maxim Integrated Products product story

The MAX1067 and MAX1068 200Ksample/s 14bit, multichannel serially interfaced ADCs connect directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without external logic.

The MAX1067 and MAX1068 200Ksample/s 14bit, multichannel serially interfaced ADCs connect directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without external logic.

Each convertor combines an input multiplexer, a high-bandwidth track/hold, an internal oscillator, a 4.096V bandgap reference and a 14bit successive-approximation ADC.

These ADCs can operate with their internal reference or with an external reference ranging from 3.8V to the analogue supply voltage.

Excellent dynamic performance (THD -98dB), DC accuracy (+/-0.5LSB DNL, +/-1LSB INL), high speed (200Ksample/s), and low current consumption (2.9mA at 200Ksample/s) make these ADCs ideal for applications such as industrial process control, instrumentation and medical applications.

The MAX1068 includes an eight-channel multiplexer and the MAX1067 accepts up to four analogue inputs.

Each device operates from a single 4.75 to 5.25V supply (analogue supply voltage) and features a separate digital supply voltage, allowing direct interfacing with 2.7 to 5.25V digital logic.

Their programmable scan mode converts each channel sequentially or a single channel continuously.

DSP-initiated conversions are simplified with the DSP frame-sync input and output.

An 8 or 16bit data transfer mode can be selected with the databit transfer input featured in the MAX1068.

The MAX1068 and MAX1067 offer a software-programmable automatic power-down mode between conversions with 1.1us fast wake-up.

Accessing the serial interface automatically powers up the devices, and their quick turn-on time allows them to be shut down between conversions.

This technique results in a supply current of less than 150uA at sampling rates of 10Ksample/s.

The MAX1068 is available in a 24-pin QSOP and the MAX1067 is available in a 16-pin QSOP.

Both devices are specified over commercial (0 to +70C) and extended (-40 to +85C) temperature ranges.

Prices start at $6.45 (1000-up, FOB USA).
