Speedy DAC claims dynamic superiority for comms
The MAX5195 is a 14bit 260Msample/s DAC claimed to provide the world's best dynamic performance in spurious-free dynamic range, intermodulation distortion and signal to noise ratio.
Low-power serial ADC runs up to 200Ksample/s
New from Maxim Integrated Products, the MAX1162 serial-interface 16bit A/D convertor connects directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without additional interface logic.
Three integrated, advanced charge pumps provide fixed +5, +15 and -10V for the LCD bias circuit, and a 34V step-up DC/DC convertor drives up to eight white LEDs in series.
The charge pumps require only ceramic capacitors and no external diodes.
All outputs are sequenced during startup and shutdown.
During shutdown, the outputs are disconnected and actively discharged to zero.
The efficiency is 83% for the bias power (+5.0V at 25mA and +15/-10V at 100uA).
The step-up DC/DC convertor in each power supply provides uniform illumination because the white LEDs are connected in a serial configuration and driven by the same current.
The convertors also feature PWM or analogue dimming control, soft-start to limit inrush current, and overvoltage protection.
Fast, 1MHz PWM operation allows for small components.
Backlighting efficiency is 84% (six LEDs at 20mA).
Additionally, the MAX1579 features a temperature-derating function that allows fewer LEDs to generate the same light output.
The input-voltage range is 2.7 to 5.5V.
Both devices also feature independent enable inputs for LED and bias power, thermal shutdown protection, and a low 1uA quiescent current during shutdown mode.
The MAX1578 and MAX1579 are available in space-saving 4 x 4mm TQFN packages, screened for the extended temperature range (-40 to +85C).
Prices start at $3.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
The MAX1579EVKIT (evaluation kit) is available to speed designs.
