The latest pair of power management devices from Maxim Integrated Products are optimised for portables which require multiple supply voltages, demand high efficiency and are small The MAX8621Y and MAX8621Z consist of two high-performance 4MHz step-down DC/DCs, four low-dropout linear regulators, a reset timer, and an open-drain driver in a 16mm2 TQFN package

Speedy DAC claims dynamic superiority for comms
The MAX5195 is a 14bit 260Msample/s DAC claimed to provide the world's best dynamic performance in spurious-free dynamic range, intermodulation distortion and signal to noise ratio.
Low-power serial ADC runs up to 200Ksample/s
New from Maxim Integrated Products, the MAX1162 serial-interface 16bit A/D convertor connects directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without additional interface logic.
Using seven discrete SOT23 components to perform this function would take 75mm2 of board space.
The step-down DC/DC convertor outputs are sequenced to ensure proper microprocessor startup and the LDOs have individual on/off control for complete flexibility.
These devices can therefore directly replace discrete solutions without requiring software to be rewritten.
The MAX8621Y and MAX8621Z provide different combinations of LDO output voltages.
The synchronous step-down convertors provide up to 92% efficiency and allow use of a tiny 1uH inductor.
The four LDOs provide low-noise 45uV RMS output and are pin-programmable to save space and maintain flexibility.
Two LDOs supply 300mA and the other two supply 150mA.
The 60ms reset timer monitors the first output and warns the system of impending power loss, thereby allowing a safe shutdown.
To alter output voltage for sleep-mode operation, the driver output controls LED backlighting or provides an open-drain connection to adjust the resistance in the feedback network of a step-down convertor.
The MAX8621Y and MAX8621Z are available in a space-saving 24-pin, 4 x 4mm TQFN package, screened for the extended industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C).
Prices start at $3.70 (1000-up, FOB USA).
The MAX8621EVKIT (evaluation kit) is available to speed designs.
