Liquid-cooled chassis raises thermal
efficiency
Dual-wall liquid-cooled design provides ATR chassis with a thermal budget of up to 1500W, enabling the latest boards to run well within their operating temperature envelope.
Elma-Mektron will launch a novel dual-wall liquid-cooled ATR chassis at DSEI 2007 The new unit has been developed from the company's field-proven air-cooled design, which is in service across numerous different defence platforms

The liquid-cooled chassis offers a 300% increase in thermal efficiency, providing a thermal budget of up to 1500W per chassis, enabling the latest high performance boards to run well within their operating temperature envelope.
The dual-wall modular design is a sophisticated subassembly that significantly reduces MTTR.
The cooling sidewalls are line replacement units, so a swap-out is a very simple process that can be carried out in the field.
As the two sides are independent of each other, cooling is still provided in the event of damage to one side; the design also gives additional protection to the vulnerable rear face of the chassis.
Three versions using different materials, protective coatings and connectors are available, enabling sea water, aviation fuel or CFCs, ammonia or various alcohols to be used as the cooling fluid to suit the application.
The patented high integrity frame design is typically 25% lighter than conventional dip brazed constructions.
Also on show at DSEI 2007 will be examples of complete standard or custom system platforms, developed in close collaboration with customers' design teams to produce solutions optimised to specific applications with minimum TTM.
Elma's large range of standard subracks, enclosures and cabinets; standard backplanes for various bus standards and other components such as rotary switches will also be on show.
