DMS2000.5 is the first product offering for the design data management (DDM) market from Mentor Graphics.

DMS2000.5 is the first product offering for the design data management (DDM) market from Mentor Graphics, and is the backbone of a new infrastructure that provides a bidirectional link between design engineers and their organisation's business systems DMS2000.5 consolidates and manages data from multiple sources, such as component information and procurement systems and enterprise resource planning software

The exchange of information enabled by DMS2000.5 allows work-in-process design data to efficiently enter the supply chain, and makes it possible for critical supply information to be factored in throughout the product design phase.

With as much as 80% of a product's cost determined during product development, an infrastructure based on DMS lowers costs, shortens the design cycle and improves product quality and reliability.

Mentor Graphics also announced that it has joined RosettaNet's Solution Provider Board as a founding member to support the continued development of data exchange standards.

RosettaNet is an independent industry consortium focused on Internet-based business standards.

As a charter member of RosettaNet's Solution Provider Board, Mentor Graphics will help to lead the development and implementation of industry standards for greater interoperability, including the integration of design data into the supply chain.

"Mentor Graphics understands the value of sharing electronic design information across the supply chain", said Jennifer Hamilton, CEO, RosettaNet.

"The RosettaNet community welcomes Mentor's participation as a founding member of the Solution Provider Board and lauds the company's efforts to enhance the customer design process by enabling supply chain information and process integration through automation".

DMS2000.5 is the first design data management system focused on the engineer that can consolidate information across multiple data management systems, removing the need for multiple systems.

DMS can manage, but is not limited to: component quality information; component supply information; electronic component-aided design (ECAD) libraries; documentation management; and bill of material (BOM) release management.

DMS2000.5 supports EDA design tools from Mentor Graphics, Cadence and Zuken, allowing users to consolidate library information and BOM management within a single system, consolidating library data and lowering library management costs.

DMS2000.5 uses an object-oriented relational technology called DataFusion that enables the storage and crossreferencing of multiple data types.

DataFusion technology enables powerful parametric search capabilities, multivendor EDA support and a flexible data model configurable to the user's needs.

DMS2000.5 is available in two versions, DMS Workgroup, which is intended to be used by mid-sized design teams and is configurable for quick deployment, and DMS Enterprise, which is intended for larger, global organisations.

DMS Workgroup is a client-server configuration providing component information, quality and supply management, BOM release management and supply chain integration.

It can scale to support global replication and PDM integration.

DMS Enterprise is a fully customisable and scalable solution to meet the special design process and supply chain integration needs of larger organisations and global design teams.

DMS2000.5 Workgroup and Enterprise will be available for shipment in Q4 2001.

Pricing for DMS Workgroup is based on configuration and number of users, with a ten-user system priced at approximately $200,000.
