Mentor Graphics has added a Hi-Speed USB On-The-Go (OTG) controller to its industry-leading portfolio of USB intellectual property solutions.

Mentor Graphics has added a Hi-Speed USB On-The-Go (OTG) controller to its industry-leading portfolio of USB intellectual property (IP) solutions The dual-role controller can operate as either a host or function controller and offers high-bandwidth connectivity in power- and performance-limited portable devices

The IP core will be a key design element in USB OTG applications, including personal digital assistants, digital cameras and mobile phones.

The OTG supplement to the USB 2.0 specification provides portable devices with a cost-effective way of communicating without the need of a host PC.

OTG-enabled devices can connect directly to each other in order to share data as well as to support the connection of traditional function devices, such as keyboards, printers and even speakers.

"Our cores are widely used by many leading companies and we have a proven track record of successful silicon implementations", said Michael Kaskowitz, general manager of the Intellectual Property Division of Mentor Graphics.

"Our customers leverage our considerable engineering efforts in certification to reduce their risk of failure.

We will continue to lead the development of standards-compliant communication cores, with USB OTG as a critical focus".

The Mentor Graphics Inventra USB Hi-Speed dual-role controller (MUSBHDRC) The Inventra MUSBHDRC tool is a synthesisable, Hi-Speed dual-role USB controller macrocell that supports both host and peripheral functions in a single core.

The major product features are: it operates as a function controller for a USB peripheral or as the host in communications with another USB function; it complies with the USB standard for Hi-Speed (480Mbit/s) functions and with the OTG supplement to the USB 2.0 specification; it supports session request and host negotiation protocols; it is configurable for up to 15 additional transmit endpoints and up to 15 additional receive endpoints; its 16/32bit synchronous CPU interface is compatible with the VSIA Basic Virtual Component Interface (BVCI) standard; and a graphical user interface is provided for core configuration The Inventra MUSBHDRC core is designed to respect the power requirements of portable devices.

All the Inventra USB cores environments are delivered to the highest quality standards and are available in Verilog and VHDL, with full testbench and documentation.
