The IEEE-SA is a leading developer of industry standards in a broad range of global industries.
The corporate membership program offers companies the ability to anticipate market requirements and ensure that business interests are represented, as standards shape the direction of technology and their marketplace applications.
"Standards strategy has become an essential component of overall business strategy, as standards underpin commerce", said Edward Rashba, Manager, New Technical Programs, IEEE Standards Association.
"Participation at the corporate level gives companies more say in shaping those standards".
Dennis Brophy's new appointment to RevCom by the Standards Association Board reflects Mentor's expanded support of the IEEE-SA.
RevCom reviews all standards that will be sent to the board for final ratification.
"Mentor has long recognised the pivotal role that standards can play in product research and development.
We have always been supportive of and active in the IEEE standards process", said Brophy.
"Mentor's corporate membership in IEEE-SA is a natural extension of that commitment, and we anticipate the corporate program will benefit the entire industry by accelerating standards availability.
I look forward to contributing to the standards process through my work with RevCom".
At the Mentor Graphics User2User Conference, Brophy, who is also current chair of Accellera, will join EDN Magazine Technical Editor Gabe Moretti, who serves on IEEE-SA's New Standards Committee (NesCom), in cohosting a session on the evolution of the standards process and its implications.
The session takes place at the Santa Clara Marriott at 1300 local time on Monday 19th April 2004.
Several other Mentor representatives play leading roles in standards development.
