Avnet releases the MAX13448E transceiver

An Avnet Memec product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Dec 3, 2008

Avnet Memec has introduced the MAX13448E +/-80V fault-protected full-duplex RS-485 transceiver from Maxim Integrated Products.

It can withstand shorts up to +/-80V on the RS-485 interface pins.

It eliminates the need for external fault-protection circuitry, typically polyswitch limiters and zener diodes.

The transceiver prevents data from being transmitted during a fault condition and resumes normal operation after the fault condition has been removed.

This integrated fault protection is useful in architectures such as USB and CAN, where power and data are transmitted along the same cable.

The MAX13448E is ideal for industrial, HVAC and motor-driver control systems.

It is slew-rate limited to reduce EMI and reflections on the data bus.

This means it allows error-free data transmission at up to 500kbps with a +5V supply and 250kbps with a +3.3V supply, in environments with high levels of radiated noise.

Hot-swap capability eliminates false transitions on the bus during power-up or hot insertion.

The MAX13448E operates from a 3.3V to 5V supply.

It is fully specified between -40 and +85C.

It is available in a 14-pin SO package.
