3M has long been a pioneer in reducing the environmental impact of its products.
The company has been developing products which use less toxic materials for more than 50 years.
The programme has seen the re-engineering of many 3M products and continues this year with the scheduled launch of a number of brand new 3M RoHS compliant interconnect products.
The new RoHS information tools add to the powerful design tools already found on 3M's Interconnect solutions web site, which include full specifications and data sheets for all products as well as downloadable CAD models of key parts.
RoHS compliant means that the product or part does not contain any of the following substances in excess of the following maximum concentration values in any homogeneous material, unless the substance is in an application that is exempt under RoHS: 0.1% (by weight) for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers; or 0.01% (by weight) for cadmium.
The deadline for component manufacturers to comply with RoHS directive is 1st July 2006.
