UPSs answer high-density comms rack
demands

Two new high-performance rack-mountable models from MGE UPS Systems provide a radical answer to the growing power security needs of computer and telecomms equipment bays.

Two new high-performance rack-mountable models from MGE UPS Systems provide a radical answer to the growing power security needs of computer and telecomms equipment bays With networking devices continuously shrinking, more and more can be packed into the same cabinet, increasing the total amount of secure power required

To supply maximum performance and electrical reliability in a smaller package, MGE has added two high-power versions to its Pulsar Extreme C range, the 2200 and 3200, designed protect critical applications or high-availability VoIP networks.

MGE spearheaded ultracompact design with its Pulsar Evolution range.

Its new Pulsar Extreme C UPSs are continuing the theme, taking up only two rack units (2U) for easy integration in networking and telecomms bays.

The battery extension units are similarly sized.

For use in all environments, the Pulsar Extreme C UPSs can be easily converted to tower or rack format.

In keeping with the rest of the range, Pulsar Extreme 2200C and 3200C are double-conversion UPSs.

The automatic bypass avoids any breaks in the supply of power in the event of overloads or faults.

When this UPS is combined with a Pulsar STS, the result is far more reliable than complex modular UPS configurations that create multiple single points of failure.

What is more, this system is one of the least expensive redundancy solutions on the market today.

In addition, MGE offers individually controlled power outlets (the PowerShare function).

This feature maximises flexibility by letting users: increase backup time for critical loads; save time and money with remote reboots, ie resetting of faulty equipment by turning the outlet off and on; ensure proper startup of protected systems with sequential starts (eg firewalls followed by the main server); and avoid overloads due to the simultaneous starting of different devices To make life easier for administrators, two management and supervision modes with a complete set of user-settable functions and guaranteed integration in heterogeneous environments are available: a point-to-point solution using the Solution-Pac software suite; and a remote-supervision solution with UPS connection to an Ethernet 10/100 network via a simple web interface (SNMP/web card) or via integration in network-management platforms (HP OpenView, IBM Tivoli Netview, CA Unicenter etc).

Pulsar Extreme 2200C and 3200C are supplied with a complete rack-installation kit (rails, screws etc) that other manufacturers offer as options with price-tags that can reach up to 10% of the UPS cost.

Other accessories include the Environment Sensor for the SNMP/web card, offering continuous monitoring of the temperature and humidity as well as the status of two contacts and Pulsar PDU (power distribution unit), a range of outlet blocks for rack connections.
