Micrel Semiconductor is expanding its family of industry-leading low-voltage low-noise uCap LDO regulators with a pair of 150mA devices ideal for driving RF circuitry in cell phones.

Micrel Semiconductor is expanding its family of industry-leading low-voltage low-noise uCap low-dropout (LDO) regulators with a pair of 150mA devices ideal for driving RF circuitry in cell phones, among others Offering the industry's lowest noise and lowest dropout voltage, the new MIC5246 and MIC5247 regulators expand the MIC524X family of uCap LDOs

All uCap LDOs are stable with either tantalum or ceramic output capacitors.

Available in the IttyBitty SOT-23-5 package, the two new devices have only 30uV RMS of output noise.

The MIC5246 is available in fixed output voltages and comes equipped with an error flag to warn of an output out of regulation fault condition.

The MIC5247 is available in lower output voltages of 1.5 and 1.8V, and includes a noise bypass pin to further improve the noise performance.

"The MIC5246 and MIC5247 LDOs are world-class regulators", says Lisa Wong, product marketing engineer for LDOs.

"They offer the lowest dropout, great noise performance and low earth current.

Their low-voltage capabilities make them ideal for driving 0.15 and 0.18 m CMOS digital logic devices, such as the new digital chips for cellular phones".

"As both are uCap regulators, they can use either ceramic or tantalum output capacitors", says Wong.

"This provides users the flexibility to choose an output device that best suits their needs of performance, cost, size and availability".

When purchased in a quantity of 1,000, prices for the MIC5246 and MIC5247 start at $0.66 and $0.57 respectively.
