World's simplest buck regulator boosted to 2A
Micrel has boosted the output capability of the industry's simplest surface-mount DC/DC switching convertor to 2A while retaining the device's original SO-8 packaging.
Dual and triple 135MHz low-power op amps
Consuming just 2.4mA per op amp, the MIC915 dual and MIC916 triple op amps extend Micrel's premier family of high-speed, low-power op amps for power-sensitive high-speed applications.
The device provides complete overcurrent and undervoltage fault protection plus slew rate limiting required in board hot swap applications.
The MIC2580 integrates the 1.0V precharge supply required in CompactPCI applications, eliminating the need for an additional regulator and several discrete components.
It also has a 'Power-Good' output separate from the overcurrent fault signal, which is useful for enabling linear or DC/DC convertors.
A power-on reset output eliminates the need for additional reset supervisor ICs.
Also integrated into the MIC2580 are +12 and -12V mosfets to support PCI applications which require these supplies.
"Micrel developed the MIC2580 to address problems designers are having with CompactPCI power distribution", says Larry Mazer, product marketing manager for Micrel.
"Board space is especially at a premium in CompactPCI systems.
The high integration of the MIC2580 not only saves space, but greatly simplifies meeting CompactPCI hot swap power requirements", adds Mazer.
"Many unique features were incorporated into the device.
For example, to allow sequencing of the 3.3 and 5V supplies for processor core and I/O supply applications, we separated the external mosfet 3.3 and 5V gate drive", says Mazer.
The MIC2580BM and MIC2580BTS are available now in 24 -pin SSOP and TSSOP, respectively for $3.60 when purchased in 1,000-piece quantities.
