Multiplexer makes the most of WAN resources
The E201 multiplexer is designed to achieve optimum usage of wide area network resources.
The E201 multiplexer is designed to achieve optimum usage of wide area network resources.
It combines the benefits of a smart ISDN switch together with a time division multiplex (TDM) access device, allowing serial data and IP Ethernet traffic to be delivered simultaneously over a single E1 or even FE1 connection.
The new unit is equally suited to the needs of telecom operators who wish to deliver combined ISDN and data services over a single 2Mbit/s connection, or for corporate clients deploying leased-line services over point-to-point multiservice connections.
The standard E201 unit is equipped with two 2Mbit/s G.703 interfaces, one universal Nx64k interface and one Ethernet interface, allowing it to offer end-user connectivity for primary-rate ISDN (PRI), Nx64k serial data and IP Ethernet traffic for maximum flexibility of network applications.
The unit is fully compliant with the European ISDN standard (Q.931), and features full ISDN switching between the two G.703 interfaces to reduce network charges.
It includes facilities for call filtering and ISDN number alterations (eg prefix dialling) for further network savings.
The G.703 interface towards the backbone can be operated as a PRI, a channelised E1 (G.704), or a combination of both, allowing a single E1 link to offer simultaneous services in all three formats.
