Microtel has been appointed by Actelis Networks of Fremont, California, to provide UK sales, marketing and support for the award-winning Metalight range of Ethernet-over-copper products Available in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configurations, these systems allow service providers to deliver up to 70Mbit/s of high-quality Ethernet services to customers or locations over existing copper cabling

They are compliant with the recently ratified IEEE802.3ah "Ethernet in the first mile" (EFM) standard, and can be quickly and seamlessly integrated into service provider networks.

Metalight platforms are powered with the patent-pending Actelis Metaloop technology, which includes features such as crosstalk cancellation (CTC), crosstalk management (CTM) and cut-line protection, among others.

This technology allows Actelis platforms to provide far better datarate, reach and reliability than other Ethernet-over-copper solutions.

With the ability to provide high-quality bandwidth to distances beyond 5.5km, the Actelis platforms are ideal to support a wide range of broadband applications including transparent LAN services, LAN interconnection, voice and video over IP.

They are also well suited to backhaul bandwidth to DSLAMs/NGDLCs, Wi-Fi and cellular basestations.

"We are delighted to be appointed as Actelis' partner in the UK", said John Larkin, Microtel's Sales and Marketing Director.

"The Metalight products are aimed at both service providers and the enterprise market, and the early level of interest we have seen has been amazing".

"We are looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Microtel", comments Meir Amarin, Executive Director of EMEA Sales with Actelis.

"Our advanced technology together with Microtel's technical support, marketing and sales forms a great combination in bringing more bandwidth over copper to Microtel's customers as well as increasing our business penetration in the UK".

"With IP now beginning to take off in the UK, this product is well positioned to deliver significant benefits - both in terms of cost and in the additional bandwidth and services expected of IP networks", adds Larkin.

The Microtel/Actelis partnership has already secured some early successes within the UK with systems deployed with the UK Ministry of Defence.
