Zarlink Semiconductor has two new low-power voice echo cancellers claimed to offer best-in-class quality for the lowest cost per channel in the industry.

Zarlink Semiconductor has two new low-power voice echo cancellers claimed to offer best-in-class quality for the lowest cost per channel in the industry The MT93L04 is a 128-channel device that meets the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU-T) G.168 standard for voice quality in converged networks, for less than US$2 per channel

The MT93L00 is the industry's best cost, highest performance, lowest power 32-channel voice echo canceller.

Demand for high-density low-cost power-efficient voice echo cancellers is growing as voice traffic increasingly travels over multiservice packet- and cell-based networks.

The MT93L04 and MT93L00 deliver time-to-market, cost, size, power, and quality of service (QoS) advantages in voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) carrier-class gateways, voice over asynchronous transfer mode (VoA) and voice over frame relay (VoFR) access equipment, T1/E1 echo cancellation pools, and wireless basestations.

The high density and compact size of Zarlink's 128-channel MT93L04 voice echo canceller results in significant cost and board space savings over alternative solutions.

The MT93L04 is ideally suited to withstand the long delays and echoes characteristic of converging circuit-switched and IP infrastructures.

The device uses a patent-pending algorithm to clean up echo tails up to 64 milliseconds (ms) long.

The chip can also be configured to provide 64-channels of echo cancellation at 128ms.

The 32-channel MT93L00 can be flexibly configured to offer 32 channels of echo cancellation at 64ms, or 16 channels at 128ms, or any combination of the two configurations.

Service providers can now meet the requirements of different customers with the same device by programming appropriate echo tails at different price/performance points.

Zarlink's new chips meet customer requirements for power-efficient echo cancellers.

The MT93L04 and MT93L00 both operate at 1.8V, with up to 5V tolerance on the input/output pins.

The MT93L04 has typical power consumption of 600mW.

The MT93L00 typically consumes 150mW, 85% less than the MT9300, Zarlink's existing 32-channel device.

With the new MT93L04 and MT93L00, Zarlink now offers 1.8, 3.3 and 5V echo cancellers for a wide variety of applications.

The 128-channel MT93L04 and the 32-channel MT93L00 are sampling now, priced at US$245.75 and US$74.47, respectively, in 10k volumes.

The MT93L04 is available in a 100-pin LQFP and a 208-pin LBGA.

The MT93L04 is packaged in a 365-pin BGA.

Evaluation boards are available to simplify user testing.
