Quality of service is key to Gigabit Ethernet ICs
The MVTX2800 family of Gigabit Ethernet switching ICs from Zarlink Semiconductor deliver full-wire speed forwarding and leading quality of service features to metropolitan optical access equipment.
The WPX and WPY processes are versatile low-capacitance linear bipolar processes providing excellent functionality at low cost.
Features such as high-value poly resistors, nitride capacitors and two-layer metal with thick-top metal allow circuits to be built with high packing densities.
This means low power control with high current capability.
Building on expertise in RF process technology, Zarlink's analogue Foundry has developed best-in-class processes with 5GHz performance and greater than 20V capability.
Zarlink developed the WPX and WPY with a base 11-mask layer process specifically for industrial applications including DC/DC power bricks, mobile telephone battery power management, linear and switching regulators, and all other linear power management applications.
"Zarlink's power management processes can often provide additional features that were not contemplated in our customers' original chip designs", said Mike Khan, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Zarlink High-Performance Analogue Foundry.
"These features are added to their designs once they see the advances we have made in silicon process technologies".
"We've done the comparison with our competitors and we have perfectly compatible processes".
Comprehensive design kits are available to assist designers in developing new products on WPX and WPY and make the transition to the Zarlink process.
The kits feature an ESD toolkit and an extensive suite of well-characterised, high-quality analogue design components including a wide range of NPN/PNP transistors, Schottky diodes, Zener diodes including zero temperature coefficient, three resistivity ranges and poly nitride capacitors.
Zarlink's WPX/WPY technology is available for low-cost prototyping using a multiproject wafer processing service.
