Intel and Kingston Technology have been elected to the Board of Directors of the MultiMediaCard Association for 2006.

Intel and Kingston Technology have been elected to the Board of Directors of the MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) for 2006.

Intel and Kingston will join 12 current MMCA board members representing a broad cross-section of host device, memory card, Flash memory and controller chipset manufacturers, including: Asus, ATP Electronics, Gemplus, Hewlett-Packard, Infineon Technologies Flash, ITRI, Lexar Media, Micron Technology, Nokia, Power Digital Card, Samsung Electronics and Silicon Motion.

"Intel is pleased to work as a direct link between the CE-ATA Promoter Group and the MMCA board to create a true common HDD interface standard for CE devices", said Rick Coulson, Intel Fellow and Director of I/O Architecture.

"Intel advocates industry recognised bus architectures that can be used by different memory systems on mobile phones and small consumer electronics devices, such as the MMC interface".

"MMC has achieved a significant market share in mobile phone and other memory card applications in consumer devices".

"Its performance advantage has distinguished it against other memory card standards for future growth", said Mike Kuppinger, Digital Media Product Manager at Kingston.

"We are delighted and welcome Intel, the world's largest chip maker, and Kingston, the creator of SIMM (single inline memory module) technology and a leading memory card manufacturer, to take on a leadership role in the MMC standards organisation", noted Yves Leonard, MMCA Board Chairman.

"Individually and collectively, they bring tremendous experience to the MMCA, as we continue building our position as the leading memory card standards for mobile communications and digital imaging".
