IDT takes MIPS 32bit core for comms SoCs

MIPS Technologies has licensed its 32bit MIPS32 4Kc processor core to IDT who will use it to develop high-performance SoC designs for the communications market.

MIPS Technologies has licensed its 32bit MIPS32 4Kc processor core to IDT who will use it to develop high-performance SoC designs for the communications market IDT will target various applications, such as line-powered office gateways/routers, Ethernet switching and storage area network systems

"IDT and MIPS Technologies have had an extensive licensing relationship for more than 13 years, both from a CPU core and an instruction set perspective", said Phil Bourekas, vice president of Internetworking products at IDT.

"Licensing the 4Kc core provides a performance upgrade path for existing customers using the RISController product family and enables IDT to focus its design efforts to deliver added value in the peripherals that surround the core itself".

"Our long, successful history with IDT has led to a number of innovative, high-performance, cost-effective solutions for a variety of embedded applications", said Derek Meyer, vice president of worldwide field operations at MIPS Technologies.

"We are delighted to further expand the relationship with our 4Kc synthesisable core, which will enable IDT's customers to rapidly deploy high-performance, 32bit systems, while accessing the hundreds of development tools and software that support MIPS products".
